Many vehicles are not properly set up. An improperly performed weight distribution is just as dangerous as none at all. A sway control, such as a friction sway or a weight distribution hitch can make a substantial difference. Properly inflated tires or the addition of an air suspension to your tow vehicle will also make a difference.
Covering your RV with a proper cover is a good practice. Do not use a tarp or a non-vented cover because they trap moisture and may cause more damage than protection. If you do not cover your RV during winter storage it is a good idea to at least cover the roof ac units to prevent leakage from melting snow. If course, here at Copley's RV we think you should come on down to South Florida for the Winter months to avoid covering Your RV to protect it from ice and snow melt which can cause freezing and thawing cycles that can seep inside of week seals and trap damaging moisture that causes delamination.
Some manufacturers recommend following specifications on the sidewall of the tire. Others have their own their own recommended specifications. Your best option is to check the placard on your unit.
A typical group 24 battery is not made for dry camping and will not last a day with the normal draws in the unit from the lights, water pump, furnace, etc. If you are planning to do a lot of dry camping you can upgrade to an additional group 24 battery or add solar panels.
The fridge, stove, water heater on propane and furnace operate off the battery. Some units come with a household style fridge so they are equipped with an inverter so fridge will run when unit is not plugged into shore power.
When using antenna always make sure to run a channel scan when unit is moved to a different location to pick up channels. When using a cable connection make sure antenna booster is turned off so signal is allowed to enter unit.
All depends on how long the appliances are used.
It is recommended that customers check their roofs and sealant every 90 days and address any issues. Be sure to use the proper sealant (self-leveling for the roof and non-sag for the exterior) as silicone does not adhere. Also recommend washing and treating rubber roof material twice a year.
Wheel bearing repacks should be performed once a year. This includes replacing seals as well as adjusting brakes.
Using an empty parking lot for safety, once tow vehicle has reached 25mph release gas pedal then use the manual lever on brake controller to activate units electric brakes and hold lever until unit stops smoothly. If you are getting a jerking feeling when activating brakes or brake on unit are locking up then brake controller needs to be adjusted by using the +/- button until unit stops smoothly. Best setting for brake controller is usually 4.5 - 5.5 but will vary on tow vehicle and unit.
New units do come with a 1 year warranty and some longer depending on manufacturer. Additional items such as roof and appliances could have longer warranties per their manufacturer. Certain issues such as sealant, adjustments and maintenance related are not covered after 90 days by manufacturer so please refer to your owner's manual as not to be surprised if an issue is denied.
When ordering parts please provide year, make and model of your unit. This makes it easier to identify parts with certain manufacturers but not always. If a part for an appliance is need please provide the appliance manufacturer as well as model and serial numbers as there are numerous parts available.
